Tarpon Fishing
Tarpon fishing is absolutely one of the most exciting types of fishing there is! These “Silver Kings” as they’re called are magnificent in their size, tenacity and acrobatics they display when on the line. If you’ve never caught one, you definitely should give it a try as it’s an experience of a lifetime!

Where we fish
We are based out of Cortez, very close to where we fish for tarpon in the waters around Anna Maria Island. We typically locate them anywhere from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and the southern tip of St. Pete down along the coast down to about Longboat Key, especially in and around the passes.
.
When we catch tarpon
The prime months, when they’re in Tampa Bay the thickest, are May and June. We start to see them though usually in mid to late April and they can be caught until about mid July. It’s the months of May and June where we regularly see multiple fish landed in a single day.
.
How big are they?
Tarpon get very large, especially considering how shallow the water is we often catch them in. It’s not easy to give an accurate description of their weight because of how much it varies, from anywhere around 40 pounds to upwards of 200 pounds. On average however most fish we catch weigh between 70 and 120 pounds.
.
How difficult is it to catch a tarpon and how long does it take?
Every fish is different…some like to jump a seemingly endless number of times while others stay down and run. Regardless, most fish get brought to the boat within 20 to 30 minutes. With a little bit of technique, which your captain can help you with if you’d like, it won’t be that difficult but it will be a lot of fun!
